Online Radio

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

I’ve come to see that all over the internet, you can find options for listening to the radio. Most all of them are free. Some of them offer commercial free music if you pay for a subscription, some offer commercial free music even if you don’t pay for it. A few options you have are LaunchCast radio from Yahoo, AOL Radio from AOL, Pandora, and Last.fm.

Myself, I use Pandora and Last.fm. At work I use my Sirius Internet Radio but that’s because I can’t get to Pandora or Last.fm from work. We can get to Sirius.com and that’s it. SIR is cool, but when I’m home I like a bit more control.

Both Last.fm and Pandora allow me to input an artist’s name and be able to listen to that artist and similar artists. On occasion you’ll get an artist that doesn’t fit, usually on Last.fm, but other than that, they’re pretty darned cool. I like ‘em at least. So check them out. You might just find yourself a new way to listen to music online.

CrueFest

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Now since this blog technically is about entertainment, not just books, I’m going to blabber a bit here about CrueFest. I’m dying to go because of the AWESOME bands there. Trapt, Sixx:A.M., Buckcherry, Papa Roach, and Motley Crue. How could I ever resist? Well, if they were coming close enough I wouldn’t be able to! But alas, they aren’t. But, if you click the banner below, you could find out if they’re coming near you!

I’m Making a Difference

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

This is a special post that is being cross posted to as many of my other blogs as I can think of to post it to.

I have just discovered a great opportunity to do what we love and make a difference at the same time. I’m talking about sending each other instant messages and emails. If you use Windows Live Messenger or Windows Live Hotmail, or even both, you can make a difference.

When you sign up for i’m, you can pick one of ten charitiable organizations - The American Red Cross, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, National AIDS Fund, The Humane Society of the United States, NineMillion.Org, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Sierry Club, UNICEF, StopGlobalWarming.Org, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. If you use both Messenger and Hotmail, you can pick different charities for each.

After you sign up, when you send IMs a little i’m logo is displayed with your name, and when you send emails, a special signature is attached. Each time you send an IM or Email with these things on them, the organization you picked will receive a donation from Microsoft. It’s a great way to make a difference doing what you do on a normal day anyways! So check it out!

Booyah!

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

I found a video by Def Leppard that I’d always wanted to see, but never had because no one ever played it, on YouTube. If you wanna know what it is…it’s “Slang.” Wanna see it? Look below. ;)

My Top 25 “Hair Metal” Bands

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Now Yahoo! Music posted a 25 best hair metal bands list, and while some of my favorites made the list, and some of them could be considered hair metal and others not, there were some glaring omissions. So without further adieu, here are my top 25 hair metal bands.

25. Cinderella - These guys were ok, but I only really liked one or two of their songs.
24. Extreme - They had about 3 songs I liked, but their 3rd album really sucked.
23. Enuff Z’Nuff - They looked like Poison and their album wasn’t all THAT great, but they were cute.
22. Bon Jovi - I rarely ever listen to these guys anymore. Seriously.
21. Ratt - Robbin Crosby’s dead and they don’t sound the same. The old stuff is cool though.
20. Winger - Whatever happened to these guys anyways?
19. Trixter - They were all pretty cute, but the follow ups to their 1st album were lackluster to me.
18. Kiss - I never really was a big fan of Kiss. The only album I like is “Hot in the Shade.”
17. Scorpions - My favorite song is “No One Like You.” They’re cool, but not too cool.
16. Queensryche - I think Empire was the only CD by them I actually liked. ;)
15. Aerosmith - This one I actually collected CDs by for a while, but finally gave up on it. I still like them though.
14. Firehouse - Their first and second albums were great. Their third, not so much. But I still like to listen to the first 2. :)
13. L.A. Guns - I had a lot of fun listening to them and I think I wore my Hollywood Vampires CD out.
12. Faster Pussycat - My favorites were “House of Pain” and “You’re So Vain.” I haven’t heard anything by them in forever though.
11. Kix - I still sing along everytime I hear “Don’t Close Your Eyes” or “Cold Blood.”
10. Skid Row - I miss the old Skid Row. It’s not the same without Sebastian singing.
9. Warrant - I don’t know, I miss the OLD Warrant with all the original members intact. Not a big fan of the newer version that tours.
8. BulletBoys - These guys were so awesome. I LOVED the singers voice.
7. Vixen - Had to love the girl band. Especially since I’m a girl!
6. Poison - They’re still together, still recording, but sometimes, I wonder why! (They covered Justin Timberlake’s “Sexy Back.”)
5. Van Halen - Some say they aren’t hair metal, I disagree. Did you ever stop to think how DLR got his hair to stay that fluffy? But the music was awesome.
4. Jackyl - Say what you will, but they showed up at the height of hair metal and they were damn good!
3. Slaughter - I miss these guys, but I guess when Tim died, keeping it together became less of a desire. :(
2. Def Leppard - I adore these guys, have the majority of their CDs.
1. Motley Crue - I have almost all their CDs, plus side project CDs and frankly, they’re the only ones I listen to regularly anymore.

There you have it. My top 25. :)

Quick Listen

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Ok, if you’re not into this kind of music, you won’t want to stick around, but just in case you haven’t heard the awesome new single from Motley Crue, here it is, in all it’s glory. It’s awesome and I can’t wait for the full CD to come out!

I’m Backlogged…AGAIN

Friday, April 11th, 2008

It doesn’t help that I don’t have internet at home and so I can’t just get up and post my thoughts on each book as I finish them. I will review the books I’m missing but it might take me a bit to do so. :)

Also the last 2 week’s questions for BTT just didn’t appeal to me, which is why I never did them. But I will return as soon as I find a question I feel I can answer. :)

Just for Curiosity

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

If you could meet one author and have dinner with them, who would it be? Would you pick their brain about how they write their books, how the come up with their ideas, or would you just hold normal non-writing conversations with them?

My answer currently would be Stephen King. I would love to ask him how he comes up with his book ideas, and if it’s true that once he finishes them he never reads them. I heard that once, that he won’t read his books once he finishes writing them because they’re too scary for him! :)

What’s better than a free book?

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Well, a free Vampire book! :) If you take a peek over at Joana’s awesome book review site, “The Symposium” you’ll find this nifty contest going on to win a copy of Diane Whiteside’s Bond of Blood.

Interested? Just click that little linky above there and leave a comment to enter. Blog about it if you want a second entry. :) Easy peasy. Now go get yourself a chance to win that book! :)
