The Simpsons Movie

Posted by: Charli    in My Thoughts

The Simpsons Movie was a good movie. I can’t deny that fact. However, I didn’t find it nearly as funny as a lot of people said it was. Granted, I haven’t watched the TV show in years because after a while I found it to be more irritating than anything. I was hoping for better things with the movie, and truthfully, as far as I was concerned, this could have just as well been a multi-episode storyline for all it was worth.

Honestly, I give this movie 3 of 5 stars. It was ok, but not the great movie I’d been led to believe it was.

Hannibal Rising The Movie

Posted by: Charli    in My Thoughts

I have to say, I anticipated a much better movie. Things were left out as always when a book is adapated for the silver screen, but there were things that were completely changed from the storyline. I’ve long been frustrated with movies that have done this, and this was no exception. Truthfully, I had expected this movie to be on par with Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal, but Hannibal Rising wasn’t even close to the same quality. I’d watch it again, perhaps as part of a Hannibal Lecter movie marathon, but I certainly won’t spend the money to purchase it or rent it again.

I’d give this 2 out of 5 stars.

V for Vendetta

Posted by: Charli    in My Thoughts

I got this movie from Blockbuster Online. I wasn’t impressed. If I am able to start reading a book or making blog posts and not want to look back at the TV screen until the movie is almost over, then it’s not a good movie. There was nothing that caught my attention in that movie. I like to see the live action versions of comic book movies, but this one just didn’t appeal to me at all. I truthfully wouldn’t recommend V for Vendetta.I give it 1 out of 5 stars.

Happy Feet

Posted by: Charli    in My Thoughts

Ok, I have to admit first and foremost that this move was not what I was expecting. To tell the truth, I was looking for something funnier and more kid-like. What I got was a sweet, heart-warming story that had it’s funny moments. With so many actors and actresses lending their voices to the various characters, I was expecting a much funnier movie.

While the fact that it wasn’t as funny was disappointing, the movie itself wasn’t a disappointment. It truthfully called attention to what very likely is a growing problem with the food chain of the penguins, but that is neither here nor there. Happy Feet is sweet, heart-warming, and cute.

I give it 3 of 5 stars.

Black X-Mas

Posted by: Charli    in My Thoughts

Talk about your predictable movies. I got about half way through it and figured it out. The only thing I wasn’t sure about what which of the characters would make it out of the house. Black X-mas was one of those movies that I suggest you find someone who bought it and borrow it from them, because really, it wasn’t worth the price I paid to buy it, and I wouldn’t even have paid to rent this one. Too predictable, and it could have been way better than it was. It really could. It was ok, but really could have been better.

I give it 2 out of 5 stars.

The Black Dahlia

Posted by: Charli    in My Thoughts

This movie was BORING! My best friend and I watched it together and we couldn’t get into it. We were just bored throughout the entire thing. It was based on the true story of Elizabeth Short, who was murdered back in the 1940’s out in Hollywood. But they messed it up by “solving” the case when the case was never really solved. The acting was good, although I’ve never particularly cared for Scarlett Johansen (I don’t even know how to properly spell her name). But the acting was very good, the script just didn’t thrill me. All in all, I really didn’t care for The Black Dahlia at all.

I’d give it 1 out of 5 stars.

The Convenant

Posted by: Charli    in My Thoughts

All I can say is wow. Granted, being Wiccan, I know better than anyone that “powers” like that aren’t real, but it would be nice sometimes! This movie was better than I had expected it to be. The story line was easy to follow, although it was easy to figure out who the 5th Son of Ipswich was before they actually made it known. I also guessed how the “good guy” would be able to defeat the “bad guy” before it actually happened, but hey, there’s a lot of movies that are that transparent and are still awesome movies. The Covenant is one of them.

I have to say, there isn’t much scary about this movie, and being from the makers of Underworld, I can honestly say, it’s the same type of film. Very good, and I definitely recommend it.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

The Return

Posted by: Charli    in My Thoughts

Unfortunately, although I’m sure there are people who greatly enjoyed this movie, I found it to be slow and very difficult to remain interested in. It didn’t take me long to figure out who the actual murderer was, and frankly, I was bored throughout the movie. The Return really wasn’t that suspenseful in my opinion, and it definitely wasn’t frightening by any sense of the word.

I’d give it 2 out of 5 stars.

The Amityville Horror

Posted by: Charli    in My Thoughts

We’re talking about the new version here. Now I had seen this in theatres when it came out. I saw it with my then roommate, Nichole. Although she liked the actor who played George, she wasn’t impressed at all with the new version of The Amityville Horror.
Myself, I thought it was a darn good recreation. It worked well for me. It had the same creepy, strange, vibe that the original had. I particularly liked the very ending. To me, the little girl resetting everything in the house to rights by screaming made the show. You could just tell she hated to be left alone in that house.

I give this one 4 out of 5 stars.

And I promise you, I AM reading a book so you don’t always get movie reviews!

The Grudge 2

Posted by: Charli    in My Thoughts

Sorry, I’ve been busy over the past week. This review is of The Grudge 2.

I loved The Grudge and I was hoping that unlike a lot of sequels, this one would be good. I got my wish. The Grudge 2 gives background information that would have been great to have had in The Grudge. The only problem I had was that we didn’t see nearly enough of Karen from the first movie. After all, she was the only one who had survived.

The Grudge 2, like it’s predecessor is scary because it’s not gory. There isn’t blood and guts everywhere. It’s the creepy kind of scary that makes you not want to turn off the lights when you go to bed, because you’re afraid of what might be lurking in the dark. That is definitely a plus in a horror film.

I give this 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.
